Sheila Bunn Joins DC Leaders Calling on Congress to Keep Hands Off DC’s Budget
Washington, DC – Sheila Bunn, Ward 8 DC Council Candidate, today released the following statement in reaction to the proposed congressional continuing resolution (CR) that includes a provision that DC officials say would be devastating to the city’s budget.
“I join Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Mayor Muriel Bowser, and the DC Council in impressing upon members of Congress that forcing the District to spend at fiscal year 2024 levels would have a $1 billion negative impact on critical operations.
“I hope Congress hears the warnings from local elected officials who best can predict how the proposed CR could lead to dramatic, immediate cuts to essential services, including police, schools, and human services.
“My fellow residents in Ward 8 and in the entire city do not deserve to be subjected to inhumane actions at the hands of Congress.
“As Congresswoman Norton’s then-chief of staff, I was privy to the steps she led years ago to have the District treated as its own entity for funding purposes as opposed to being treated as a federal agency. For the preservation of the safety and quality of life of our residents, let’s not turn back the clock!”
