Enhancing Housing Sustainability
Home ownership is a path to building generational wealth.
All Washingtonians should be able to find safe, decent and affordable housing near where they work, shop and play. Sheila will champion policies that make the cost of housing more affordable and work to expand the availability of affordable and workforce housing to support our neighbors of low and moderate means.
Homeownership is particularly critical for helping District residents to build equity and grow their families in the District. In 2023, the total number of owner-occupied housing units in Ward 8 was only at 23% compared to the District-wide 41%. Sheila will work to bolster home ownership tools like HPAP, EPAP, TOPA and support housing cooperatives and community land trusts so that more of our neighbors can move from renting to owning.
